![Qué noticia tan triste. No es fácil despedir a alguien que dio tanto y marcó tanto.
En una publicación de la red de museos del Banco de la República de Colombia[ @banrepcultural ] leí una frase suya que se me quedó grabada: “Debo mi invención a la libertad que tuve”. Y creo que ahí está gran parte de lo que nos enseñó.
Beatriz González demostró —cuando no era nada fácil— que una mujer artista podía expresarse con absoluta libertad, sin pedir permiso y sin explicarse de más. Eso dejó huella y abrió camino a tantas artistas colombianas que resaltan en la historia: Doris Salcedo, Delcy Morelos, María Teresa Hincapié, María José Arjona, María Fernanda Cardoso, María Isabel Rueda, Rosario López, Carolina Caycedo, Johana Calle, Nohemí Pérez… la lista es eterna.
La conocí en un SITAC, recién llegada a México hace más de 18 años, y recuerdo cómo cautivó a todo el mundo con un lenguaje claro, directo y sencillo. Y eso, en lo particular, a mí me resonó mucho. Nunca he sido de hablar con términos rimbombantes ni de redacciones complejas, y al principio de mi carrera eso a veces me hacía sentir que quizá no me iban a tomar en serio o no iba a encajar muy bien en este campo profesional. Me acuerdo que sentí un fresquito, justamente: una libertad, cuando la oí hablar.
Sin vueltas, sin poses. Cada palabra cargada de potencia y experiencia, sin pretensión alguna. No necesitaba aparentar nada: lo tenía todo. Una dura, de verdad.
Uno de los grandes honores de mi vida fue recibir el material visual para publicar su trabajo en LARMAGAZINE [ @larmagazine ]. Esa portada es profundamente significativa para mí y siempre lo será.
